Hello boys and ghouls I just want to stop in and say hello. Now that the holidays are almost over I find that I have time to visit places on my list.
I recently bought a DVD of Carnival of Souls, one of my favorite fear flicks from my childhood.
Carnival of Souls(1962) A car plunges off a bridge, and a young woman emerges, apparently unscathed. Wandering off, her odyssey takes her to a strange small town and a carnival pavilion whose patrons walk the line between the living and the dead. Director Herk Harvey's atmospheric low-budget chiller has achieved a cult following; Candace Hilligoss, Sidney Berger star. 87 min.
I thought this post got lost and I made another one. Silly me! I'm sitting here refreshing the first page and nothing, here it is, I find it on the last page.
Jeff, could you delete my duplicate post please? I thought this would show up on the first page, and when I didn't see it, I made another post and that one has errors in it, thanks.
I'll have to check out Horror Hotel. My wife suggested we start a horror film collection. Personally, I prefer Sci-Fi but some classics are both, like <a href="http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0052564/">The Angry Red Planet</a>
LOL I don't know why it's doing that. Maybe just post the url?
Anyway "Fantastic World " ( or is it Planet ?the one with Robby ) ,King Kong,Them,The Thing,The Lodger,Bride of Frankenstein,Darby O'Gill and The Little People,Dracula's Daughter, and " Curse of The Cat People "
Sorry to have to put this film here, it is grotesque, but this one just came to mind.
ERASERHEAD (1976)
Director David Lynch’s feature-film debut is a masterpiece of the macabre and grotesque. Reportedly a reaction to the news that he was about to become a father, Lynch's ERASERHEAD follows a sensitive young man as he struggles to cope with impending parenthood. Henry Spencer (Jack Nance) lives in a hopeless industrial landscape, lusting after the beautiful woman who lives in the apartment across the hall. After his girlfriend, Mary (Charlotte Stewart), informs him of her pregnancy, he is forced to eat dinner with her extremely odd family. The baby is eventually born, only it isn’t a human baby at all; it’s a deformed creature that resembles a lizard. The baby won’t stop crying, a horrifyingly piercing wail that drives Mary insane. Left alone with the baby, Henry is serenaded by a woman who lives inside his radiator, and soon he decides to murder his baby in order to stop the nightmare once and for all. Five years in the making, ERASERHEAD contains all of the trademark attributes of a Lynch film--haunting visuals, an ethereal score, unsettling sound design, and, most notably, a black sense of humor--creating a world onscreen that is exhilarating, terrifying, and unique.
hey guys! just got your e-mail jeff, and I am heading for bed cuz i have to work in 6 hours, but thought i would say howdy at least. looks like an interesting thread. I'll be back to join in this weekend. good to see you both.
WOW!!! This thread is really getting into the nooks and crannies of sci-fi & horror. The Tingler, the first time I saw that I was slightly influenced by a (recreational) influence. At the time I was watching a black & white TV, but I saw the film in color that was the first time I saw that movie, musta' been around 1972. I thought it was a really cool film to watch at midnight on Chiller Theater (a weekly late-night horror movie program).
Just to lighten up the mood a little, I'll mention Attack of The Killer Tomatos.
Joel, I've missed your company as well. Since the Holidays are over, I have made a return to the online scene and (if you would like to stop in) I started a prog-rock thread at <a href="http://forums.mp3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=14014#14014">CNET Music Forum</a>.

Jeff, If the HTML above shows not as a link, then let me know what I'm doing wrong. If it does then.....nevermind. :)
This is one of those movies that are so bad, they have become good.
the movie is called "Spider Baby" and starred a rather pathetic yet poignant performance by Lon Chaney Jr. But the girl that played the demented teenage girl Virginia gives a mesmerizing preformance. Name was Jill Banner, and it is believed to be her one and only film role. She is what makes the film something worth seeing.
(I tried to put a picture here, but apparently your board doesn't accept images Jeff?)
There is something about it that works. Ever seen it?
I have the "collectors edition" video which has some very cheesy scenes from the cast and crew reunion.
Chaz, I don't know what you're doing wrong. I'll have to check settings later and see. I know a url addy by itself works. I think. Lets try http://ahwyrockstreetjeff.homestead.com/ yep works that way.
Chiller Theater ? The one that was on Pittsburgh TV with Chilly Billy?
Joel, I always wanted to see " Spider Baby" Where did you get it?
Got it at a place here called Media Play. It's a chain type place but I don't know if there are any where you live.
I'm KNOW you can order it on the net. probably find it cheap on e-bay.
Here's an idea of the kind of movies I like:
"Earth vs. The Flying Saucers" awesome flick, with special effects by the master of his time, Ray Harryhausen, who also provided the effects on:
"First Men on the Moon" and "Mysterious Island", two classic Jules Verne adventure. The latter especially boasted some incredible FX. That crab, and those bees just blew me away at the time. still do actually.
I still watch "The Thing From Another World" regularly. Can never get enough of that movie. I like the Carpenter remake too, but the original is timeless and classic. It's probably my favorite movie of all time.
Then there is "The Creature from the Black Lagoon". The gill man is probably the best monster that came out of that era. I like the sequels too, btw.
"This Island Earth". What an awesome flick that is!
I could go on and on (and i will)
but I'll stop with this silly flick, but still one of my favorites:
"The Monolith Monsters" Giant rock crystals that grow uncontrollably, and turn people to stone. Very scary! And all it took to defeat them was.............salt water.
It has Grant Williams in it though, who was in the masterful:
"The Incredible Shrinking Man" Some of the best prop special effect in the movies ever.
Don't think we have any Media Plays around here. I'll try Blockbuster. Hey I love everyone of those films you named. "This Island Earth " is great . How about " The 7th Voyage of Sinbad " ? That was great too. Of course I also love " King Kong VS Godzilla" LOL
20 Million Miles to Earth" and "It Came From Beneath the Sea", "The Beast From 20 Thousand Fathoms", "The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad", "Jason and the Argonauts"....let's see,
Oh yeah "The Valley of the Gwangi". "Clash of the Titans" and "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger"
Harryhausen was a true film pioneer. Even the suckiest of movies are worth watching just for his incredible animations!
and don't forget " Mighty Joe Young" now instead of Harryhausen they use computers. His art is a dying art. Sigh. The remake was good though. He even had a small part in it with Terry Moore.
Whew!! I can't keep up with you guys. I'm gonna' compile all these great movies on this thread someday, but until then, let's not leave out some silly horror classics too, like some Abbott & Costello funny horror flicks. What was that one where they were both ghosts?
Looney Tunes- Back in Action. Has guest appearences by Robby the Robot, the monster from This Iland Earth, that ape with the bowel over his head, what old movie was that?, The Triffids I think, the guy from Invastion of The Body Snachers still trying to warn us and some other famous monsters. Also good spoof of James Bond and The Avengers.
